JPS Engineering and Design has years of experience in conducting detailed and
accurate sub-bottom and bottom profiles of bodies of water. Our informative surveys
determine the measurements at thousands of precise locations in the following areas
of interest: Depth of Water and Depth of Sediment.
State-of-the-art equipment is used with real time position (Differential
GPS) input, which is accurate to less than one and one-half meters.
|
 |
The Multi-frequency Sub-Bottom Profiler provides highly accurate measurements
of depth to the bottom, and sediment penetration up to 200 meters, with
accuracy measured in centimeters. This provides the ability to precisely
determine the volume of sediment disposition in a given area and the depth
of the sediment at a specific location.
The insight provided by these surveys in open ocean, estuarine, cooling and
wastewater treatment lagoons is invaluable to the efficient management of
these resources.
JPS Engineering and Design has conducted numerous accurate and informative
temperature profiles of bodies of water. |
|
Using a unique approach with existing
computer modeling capabilities, we are able to predict temperature reduction
achieved by modifying the retention time of a lagoon or lake.
Every structural component of JPS Baffle Curtains has the same rate of linear expansion, and it is this design feature that makes our Curtains work as well and as long as they do.
|
|
|
|
|
No other manufacturer makes this claim, and its importance cannot be overstated. It means that when JPS Baffle Curtains are exposed to the elements, they absorb shocks and normal changes in the environment evenly throughout the structure. Thus, there is less wear and tear on each part, joints stay together longer, moorings remain anchored, and the integrity - and effectiveness - of the whole product are ensured.

RESULTS
1. A paper mill in the south had spent twenty years sending wastewater with a high fiber content to their treatment lagoon. As a result, only sixty two percent of the original capacity was left in the treatment lagoon; short-circuiting resulted in upsets reaching the outlet in less than two days. The design retention time originally was eighteen days.
|
Implementing JPS Engineering and Design's innovative approach in an eighteen month period, over a quarter million cubic yards of sludge were removed from the lagoon with no noticeable increase in suspended solids at the outlet. Additionally, the BOD removal efficiency increased from the low eighties into the mid nineties and the COD removal efficiency showed similar improvement. The improvement was so significant that the mill was nominated for the Governor's annual environmental award.
2. A sub-bottom profile conducted for the University of New Hampshire at their open ocean aquaculture site found sediment depths of up to sixty meters over bedrock. The information provided permitted them to precisely site anchors for a fish cage grid that has successfully withstood several major winter ocean storms over a two-year period.
